That the term water-proof,
in most markets, cannot be labelled on watches. Instead, the term
water-resistant followed by an atmospheric rating (ATM) is used to
denote the properties of the watch in under-water conditions. Ratings
are used as follows:

3ATM : 30 meters, brief
contact with water

5ATM : 50 meters, moderate
aquatic sports
-
10ATM : 100 meters, normal
aquatic sports, not designed for diving
-
20ATM : 200 meters, scuba
diving when equipped as such
